Many of us on the SNP benches in Westminster were of course frustrated that the current safety restrictions in parliament meant we could not physically be present in the Commons chamber for a debate of this level of importance.
My colleagues Patrick Grady MP and Patricia Gibson MP were present and spoke on the need for the UK Government to match the Scottish Government’s level of support on this front.
My colleagues in the Scottish Government remain committed to passing on all Barnett consequential for this to the NHS in Scotland.
Scottish nurses are paid better than anywhere else in the UK and the Scottish Government is delivering the highest pay rise in the UK for NHS agenda for change staff of at least a 9% pay rise for the three years from 2019. It also gave an immediate 3.3% pay rise to social care workers.
I sincerely hope the UK Government finds a way of honouring the hard working NHS and care sector staff across the rest of the UK who are working tirelessly to keep people healthy and safe from coronavirus.
